The
2009 Miss Arkansas Rice county winners have been
selected in their respective counties. They will
promote rice and the Arkansas rice industry
throughout their area from now until they compete in
the state contest on Nov. 14 in Little Rock.
The Miss Arkansas Rice program began in 1961, when Elizabeth Collins from Harrisburg (Poinsett County) won the first title. The contest’s purpose is to promote interest in rice cookery and rice promotion among Arkansas youth and to focus the Arkansas general public’s attention on the importance of the rice industry to the state’s economy. The awards recognize superior achievement in rice cookery and rice promotion and basic knowledge about the rice industry.
County winners are: Baylee Currie, Arkansas County; Courtney Keller, Chicot County; Hannah Hodges, Craighead County; Laura Fowler, Cross County; Jordan Foushee, Jackson County; Chelsea Benson, Lee County; Piper Veazey, Monroe County and Lydia Holmes, St. Francis County.
The Miss Arkansas Rice contest is sponsored by the Arkansas Rice Council, the USA Rice Council, the Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.
