Brittney Johnson Named Miss Arkansas Rice

 BRINKLEY, AR — Cross County 18-year old Brittney Johnson was named Miss Arkansas Rice at the state contest on Saturday, Aug. 13. She is the daughter of Britt and Brigett Johnson and from Cherry Valley.

The first runner-up and second-runner ups were Lexie McEntire of Craighead County and Bailey Moon of Lee County, respectively.

Contestants were judged on rice promotion, rice cooking skills and knowledge of the rice industry. Brittney’s recipe was “Rice Apple Crisp.” Representatives from seven counties participated in the contest, which has a 50-year tradition. Other contestants were Emily Patterson of Arkansas County, Haley Strutz of Monroe County, Nikki Munnerlyn of Prairie County and Ashley Blaylock of St. Francis County.

Contest judges were Janice Marsh, Vice Chairman Farm Bureau Women’s Committee; Mary Francis Perkins, President Arkansas Women in Ag; and Jennifer Victory, Arkansas Farm Bureau.

The goal of the Miss Arkansas Rice program is to encourage youth interest in rice and to publicize the importance of the Arkansas rice industry to the state’s economy.

The Arkansas Rice Council sponsors the annual contest in cooperation with the Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.
